Pallets in Fratton

Fratton is where a lot of Portsmouth's practical trade actually happens: garages, fabricators, wholesalers and small distributors packed into the strip of light industrial land that follows the railway.

A working part of the city

The land either side of the railway line, around Goldsmith Avenue and the roads running off it, carries a long-established mix of light industrial and trade units. Motor trade is heavily represented, along with builders' suppliers, engineering workshops, print and signage, and small wholesale operations serving the rest of the city.

Fratton Park and the retail units off Fratton Way bring their own pattern of activity, and delivering anywhere near the ground on a match day is worth avoiding entirely. It is a small thing, but it is the kind of local detail that decides whether a delivery lands or gets turned around.

What these customers use

Mostly sound used pallets, in standard sizes, in modest but regular quantities — pallets for stock racking, for parts and materials coming in, and for one-way trade deliveries going back out. Where a workshop is sending finished work to a customer or handling heavier fabricated items, new or heavier-deck pallets make more sense and we will say so.

Fratton is also a reliable source of surplus pallets. Units receiving materials all week end up with a stack behind the roller door and nowhere to put it. If that is you, tell us roughly how many and what sizes and we will tell you whether a collection is worth doing.

Getting a vehicle in

Many Fratton units load from the street or from a short shared apron rather than a proper yard. Level entry is common, forklifts are not universal, and parked cars fill the kerb by mid-morning. Earlier slots and smaller vehicles work better here than they do on the industrial roads to the north.

If you have a forklift or a pallet truck, say so — it changes what we can bring and how quickly we can be away again.
