Used Pallets in Portsmouth
A sound used pallet does the same job as a new one for a great many loads, at a lower cost and with far less new timber involved. The important part is that someone has actually looked at it before it reaches you — which is what happens in our yard.
How we sort used pallets
Pallets come back to us from collections across Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. They are unloaded, sorted by size and condition, and anything unsafe is pulled out. A pallet with a cracked bearer, a missing deck board or a deck that has been racked out of shape is not something we will send to a customer as a working pallet — it goes for repair or is broken down.
What you should expect from a used pallet is honest wear: weathered timber, old labels, mixed shades, the occasional scuff. What you should not expect is a pallet that will fail under a load or damage a forklift.
Where used pallets work well
- Internal stock movement and racking within your own site.
- Deliveries to trade customers where the pallet is not returned.
- Storage of bagged, boxed or drummed goods on a yard or in a unit.
- Builders, workshops and fabricators handling heavy but forgiving loads.
- Event, display and garden projects where the timber itself is the point.
- Any regular one-way movement where a new pallet would not be recovered.
They are a poorer fit where the pallet has to look new, run through automated handling without variation, or satisfy an export marking requirement it does not carry. In those situations we would point you towards new pallets or plastic pallets instead.
Choosing between used and new
The practical test is simple: does anything about this load depend on the pallet being uniform? If the answer is no — the load is yours, it stays local, and it is being handled by people rather than machines — used pallets are usually the better value. If the answer is yes, the small saving on a used pallet is rarely worth the risk of a rejected delivery or a jam in someone else's handling system.
Many customers we supply run both: new pallets for outbound customer deliveries, used pallets for everything happening inside their own four walls.
Delivery and what to tell us
We deliver used pallets throughout Portsmouth, including Southsea, Cosham, Hilsea and Portchester, and out to Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Waterlooville, Emsworth, Chichester, Petersfield, Hedge End and Bursledon, with planned or larger jobs running as far north as Guildford. Same-day delivery is available subject to stock and route.
When you call, have the size you need, the quantity, your postcode, how the load will be offloaded, and when you need them. If you are also generating surplus pallets, mention it — a delivery and a collection on the same run is often the tidiest arrangement for both of us.
