Pallets in Portsmouth

Portsmouth is the reason this business exists, and it is where most of our deliveries and collections happen. It is also one of the more awkward cities in the country to deliver pallets into, which shapes how we work here.

A city built on an island

Almost all of Portsmouth sits on Portsea Island, and everything coming in by road funnels through a small number of crossings: the M275 down into the city centre, the A3 at Northern Parade, and the Eastern Road running down the island's east side. That geography is why delivery timing matters more here than in most places. A load that is straightforward at nine in the morning can become an hour of queuing at four in the afternoon.

The island is also one of the most densely built-up areas in Europe. Many businesses here work out of Victorian units, converted yards and shared industrial buildings with a single narrow entrance and nowhere to turn a large vehicle. We would rather you told us that up front than have a driver discover it.

Where the pallet work is

The eastern and northern edges of the island carry most of the commercial traffic — the industrial roads around Burrfields Road, Airport Service Road and Fitzherbert Road, where trade counters, wholesalers, vehicle workshops and distribution units sit together with reasonable access. That is where larger loads and regular runs tend to go.

Inside the city, the mix is different: independent retailers, print and fabrication workshops, hospitality suppliers, online sellers working from small units, and the university and hospital supply chains. Those customers usually want small quantities, delivered somewhere tight, at a time that does not clash with the rest of their day.

What we supply across the city

New, used and plastic pallets, delivered anywhere in PO1 to PO6, plus collection of surplus pallets that are stacking up and getting in the way. Because we are collecting in the same city we are delivering in, a delivery and a collection on the same visit is often the tidiest arrangement for both sides.

Tell us the size, the quantity, your postcode, how the load will come off the vehicle and when you need it. If access is difficult — a shared yard, a low arch, a pedestrianised street, a time-restricted loading bay — say so when you ring rather than on the day.
