Pallets in Hilsea
Hilsea is the industrial gateway onto Portsea Island. It has the space the rest of the island does not, which is why so much of the city's warehousing, trade counter and vehicle work ends up here.
The northern industrial belt
The estates around Norway Road, Airport Service Road and the roads behind the old airfield land carry the largest concentration of proper commercial yards on the island. Units here typically have real loading areas, forklifts on site and room for an articulated vehicle to get in and turn round — none of which can be assumed further south.
Hilsea also sits immediately inside the northern crossings, so goods arriving from the M27 and A3 reach it before they hit the city's congestion. For anyone running a regular inbound flow of palletised stock, that matters.
Typical Hilsea requirements
Larger and more regular orders than the rest of the island: full loads of used pallets for storage and internal movement, new pallets where stock is going out to customers, and plastic pallets where goods are washed down or handled in a closed loop.
Because the yards here have the space to stack, Hilsea is also one of the better places in the city for collections. Surplus pallets accumulate quickly on a busy inbound site, and clearing them in a single visit is usually more economical than a series of small pickups.
Working with bigger sites
If you run a booking-in system, a delivery window or a site induction, tell us when you order rather than when the driver arrives. Equally, if you can take a full load in one drop, say so — it is nearly always the cheapest way to buy pallets.
For sites moving goods on and off the island daily, it is worth talking about pairing deliveries with collections on the same run.
